A Lafayette woman convicted of murdering her boyfriend could be a free woman pretty soon.

The third circuit court of appeal has overturned the conviction of a Mary Trahan.  She's been serving life in prison since her conviction last year for the death of George Barbu.

According to the third circuit, the prosecution not only failed to prove Trahan had intent to murder, it also failed to prove it was Trahan who pulled the trigger. The prosecution intends to appeal.

In the meantime Trahan could be released.
