Holiday Airport Travel

This is one of the busiest travel weeks of the year, Holiday traveling started early Wednesday morning.

People began arriving at the Lafayette Regional Airport as early as 5:00 AM Wednesday morning. The week before Christmas is one of the busiest times for the airport. Cathy Whiddon was here for business and is going back home to Witchita, Kansas.

“On the 17th they were over booked and as I said we had a really hard time getting tickets out of here today.”

This month may be one of the busiest, but it falls in line with the trend all year. This has been a record setting year for the amount of passengers flying out of Lafayette.

“No doubt we will break the record set in 2007. And it continues to be busy at the airport as peoples' time from work allows them to go back home.” says Airport President Greg Roberts.

Carol Youngdahl travels around the country for business. She knows how busy it can get around the holidays but the types of travelers are different.

“Very busy. Not much different, well yeah different, but you can see there are a lot less business travelers and a lot more vacationers.”

People from the Acadiana area choose to fly Lafayette for many reasons.  Everyone we talked to were expecting it to be a busy travel day but it would be worth it in the end once they arrived at their destination.
