Animals and Flood Waters

These waters are obviously cause for concern with your pets, but they can also cause additional problems with livestock.

Polluted water can cause outbreaks of diseases in livestock.  And standing water is a breeding ground for mosquitos.  These conditions and a stressful living environment can be hazardous to your livestock.

Stan Dutile of the LSU Ag Center says that anytime we concentrate our animals on smaller acres and on smaller pastures, their immunity is down and their chance for disease increases.

Livestock producers should be on the lookout for any animals sick or diseased so they can respond as quickly as possible.  And make sure all your animals are up to date on their immunizations.
