Escaped Inmates Caught

Houston station KHOU reports that the two St. Martin Parish escapees, Robert Chatman III & Andre Gilbert, along with the Chatman's girlfriend, Amanda Champagne, have been arrested in Houston. More updates on this story to come soon.

 

UPDATE: Shortly after 3:30 p.m. this afternoon, all three suspects were apprehended without incident at a Houston hotel with the direct assistance of the U.S. Marshal's Violent Offender Task Force from Lafayette, La., and Houston,Texas. Extradition proceedings will be initiated and they will be returned to St. Martin Parish where they will face the following additional charges:

  • Robert Lee Chatman III-Simple Escape
  • Andre Gilbert-Simple Escape
  • Amanda Champagne-Aiding and Assisting in an Escape

Fifteen Acadiana schools are on soft lockdowns as police look for these two who escaped from the Breaux Bridge substation. Police now think Robert Chatman and possibly Andre Gilbert are in the company of Chatman's girlfriend, Amanda Champagne.  

Amanda Champagne is a 20 year old white female, with brown hair and eyes; she is five feet tall and weighs 163 pounds.

She is driving a 2002, silver, Chevrolet Malibu, Louisiana license plate number VHL-938.

For the 15 schools on soft lockdown, It's a precautionary measure. Students are in class as normal, the doors are locked, and no one is allowed in or out of the facility. Parents will be notified by email when the lockdowns are lifted.
