IBERIABANK presents The Tokyo String Quartet, an Acadiana Center for the Arts All-Stars Event. This incredible assemblage will be performing at the Acadiana Center for the Arts' James Devin Moncus Theater, Friday September 9, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. This event includes a pre-concert discussion and meet and greet with the artists at 7:00 p.m.

The event is the first in AcA's new All-Stars Concert Series, presented by IBERIABANK. For the 2011-2012 Season, IBERIABANK has partnered with AcA to bring eight world-class musical performances into the equally outstanding Moncus Theater. From Classical to Jazz, Rock, Bluegrass and Country, IBERIABANK and AcA have worked together to raise the bar in presenting music to Acadiana.

Consisting of Martin Beaver and Kikuei Ikeda on violin, Kazuhide Isomura on viola and Clive Greensmith on cello, the Tokyo String Quartet, now in its 42nd year, has collaborated with a remarkable array of artists and composers, built a comprehensive catalog of critically acclaimed recordings and established a distinguished teaching record.

Granting more than 100 concerts worldwide and with a devoted international following, the Tokyo String Quartet is widely recognized as the finest ensemble of its kind. Part of an international tour in cities such as Cologne, Madrid, Vienna, Copenhagen, London, Paris and Milan, the quartet's performance at AcA will mark their first appearance in Louisiana!

Lafayette audiences will have the unique opportunity to see, hear and be in the presence of a priceless set of instruments at this performance. Tokyo String Quartet performs on “The Paganini Quartet,” a 17th century group of renowned Stradivarius instruments named for legendary virtuoso Niccolò Paganini, who acquired and played them during the 19th century. The opportunity to get up close and personal to instruments of this quality and historic significance is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Outreach, educational activities with the quartet and a pre-concert meet & greet opportunity round out the quartet's visit to Lafayette.

This performance will have you experience the excitement of works by groundbreaking composer Belá Bartók, alongside the classical splendor of Joseph Haydn, known as “the father” of the string quartet. The Huffington Post exalts the ensemble for playing these arrangements with “technical excellence, emotional truth and jaw-dropping musical insight,” while the Toronto Star raves, “the musicians displayed such finesse, such careful shaping of each melodic line as it was passed from one instrument to the next, that one is left almost breathless.”

“To be able to bring Tokyo String Quartet to Lafayette has been a dream of mine for many years,” says Dr. Gerd Wuestemann, AcA's executive director. “At long last we have a venue that will do justice to the artistry of these amazing musicians and the incredible instruments they perform on. To be able to experience one of the finest classical ensembles in the world – the kind of group that is a regular on stage at Carnegie Hall – in the intimacy of the Moncus Theater, is very special indeed.”
This is the string performance of the season – be sure to secure your seat to this very special musical event!
