Suspect Arrested in Weekend Shooting

Kaven Bernard is charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder, following a shooting Sunday evening. Police say a man was shot in the leg while riding as a passenger in a car. It happened in the 300 block of Marne street. Police interviewed the victim at the hospital and arrested Bernard shortly after. The shooting remains under investigation.


– On April 1, 2012, at approximately 5:00 pm, Lafayette Police responded to an area hospital regarding a shooting victim. The victim advised he was riding in a vehicle in the 300 block of Marne Street when the suspect began shooting a handgun at the vehicle. The victim, a 45 year old male of Lafayette, was riding in the front passenger seat when he was struck in the right leg by the gunfire.  Investigators were able to locate the suspect, Kaven Bernard (27) of Lafayette, and charged him with 2 counts of Attempted First Degree Murder. The victim was treated and released from the hospital. The shooting remains under investigation.
