University of Louisiana at Lafayette President Dr. Joseph Savoie and City-Parish President Joey Durel will participate in a ceremony on Saturday, July 28, to mark the transfer of approximately 100 acres to Lafayette Consolidated Government. The Lafayette City-Parish Council approved an ordinance on July 3, 2012 that authorized the purchase of the property, commonly known as the Horse Farm, from UL Lafayette. The land, in the heart of the city, will be used as a passive park. It will feature walking trails, bike paths and green space.
“Saturday is going to be a celebratory day for Lafayette. It is not an exaggeration to say that many people have been waiting years for this day, and I look forward to signing that paper and telling the people of Lafayette that the Horse Farm will be theirs for generations to come,” said City-Parish President Joey Durel.
The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m.
