Jessie Moore of Lafayette received a check in the mail and was immediately delighted. The check in the amount of $5,500 was enough to help her pay her bills and get her kids ready for school. After taking the check to have it cashed, she discovered the check was fake and she was part of a scam.
The check was from the San Diego County Credit Union and was made out it Jessie. The address on the envelope the check was received in , was from a Sheriff's Office in Kansas. Calls were made to both locations, and representatives confirmed they were receiving complaints about fake checks and assured they are not involved or tolerating the checks.
If you think you may be the victim of a check scam, do not try to cash the check. Discard it immediately.
