With so many takeoffs and landings, there's plenty going on at Lafayette regional. But many may not realize there's also plenty happening on the ground. The airport has improvements and upgrades planned that are well into the millions.
Much of the funding will come from grants. Recently the Lafayette Regional Airport received five point eight million in federal dollars to improve runway safety. One of the biggest projects to come in the near future is the building of a new terminal. All of those projects and future projects is aimed at not only safety but attracting more people to fly Lafayette.
According to Greg Roberts, the Director of Aviation at Lafayette Regional Airport, if more people fly local it gives him a good case to argue to the airlines to bring in more planes and bigger ones. On-going projects and future projects bring in about a half billion dollars to our local economy.
