Festival Acadiens Volunteers Needed

Le Festivals Acadiens et Creoles begins October 12th and runs through the 14th, but volunteers are needed before, during and after the event to ensure a success.

This is the 40th year the free festival has graced Girard Park in Lafayette and volunteer coordinators say the decline in community support is alarming. Over the years, the event has grown to include even more art vendors, music acts and food stands for attendees to enjoy. That growth, however, has not been reflected in the number of helping hands.

Volunteers play a crucial role in keeping the festival free because they sell refreshments, T-shirts and provide labor that would otherwise need to be paid for by the festival. If you would like to get involved  there is still time to register.

You can visit www.festivalsacadiens.com/volunteer. You can E-mail info@festivalsacadiens.com. You can even show up the morning of the festival to work without registering. Perks of volunteering include a T-shirt, premium parking, and knowledge of what/where events are going on. Twenty year volunteer Micky Munoz says “I've met some people and maintained friendships with them and then there are people you see once a year and it's like no time has passed.” For volunteer coordinator Andrea Burkenstock, the event brings back memories from childhood, “that's why we have the bands we have and the art vendors we have, we want to keep the heritage alive and well.”
