HOUMA, La. (AP) – Terrebonne Parish officials are looking for ways to help law enforcement authorities hold business owners responsible for selling synthetic drugs known as bath salts.

The Courier reports that (http://bit.ly/TYYjMZ ) Greg Hood told fellow Parish Council members Wednesday that he met with state officials to discuss a law that would let parishes revoke occupational licenses of business owners caught selling substances that are technically legal but that mimic the effects of illegal drugs.

Hood also said he and Parish Attorney Courtney Alcock are working with District Attorney Joseph Waitz to come up with a misdemeanor ordinance for Terrebonne Parish that would give police authority to set up sting operations at stores that sell these drugs. No action was taken Wednesday but council chairwoman Arlanda Williams said an ordinance is planned.
