Teachers in Lafayette Parish are still waiting for extra space at NP Moss Prep. Renovations will add an in-school suspension site. It was set to debut November 1st and that hasn't happened yet.
Board member Hunter Beasley has heard the complaints. Teachers with disorderly students in the classroom – and there is no place to send them. “Teachers have been treated poorly by students and there are just no consequences for their behavior.”
NP Moss will be an alternative to sending a student home. “The site that's opening at NP Moss Prep is where they'll be suspended; but they can still be getting an education.”
Board member Tehmi Chassion is waiting too. Moss Prep opening will relieve some tension. However, he has doubts about it being the solution to all discipline problems. “It's frustrating when the plans to renovate were approved I thought the school would be ready by August, beginning of the school year. It's something I'm really unhappy about,” says Chassion.
Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper tells KLFY News that he'll provide an updated in about two weeks.
