Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested

Wednesday night at around midnight the US Marshals Violent Offender Task Force with critical assistance from the Houma Police Department, Thibodeaux Police Department, and Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office arrested twenty-one year old Christopher Wilson.  Wilson was Wanted by the Lafayette Police Department for Attempted First Degree Murder.  These charges stem from a July 2nd “Shooting in Progress” call in which the victim was shot in the midsection.  The Lafayette Police Department requested assistance from the US Marshals on November 1st (the warrant was signed November 2nd).  Yesterday evening a team of six task force officers from the US Marshals Violent Offender Task Force traveled to Houma and after approximately seven hours of investigating located Wilson at 210 Columbus Street, Houma, LA.  The arrest occurred without incident as Wilson was asleep when we located him.  Wilson was booked at the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office and is awaiting extradition back to Lafayette.    Henry Whitehorn, the US Marshal for the Western District of Louisiana, said, “The coordinated effort of all law enforcement to bring dangerous criminals to justice ensures that the streets and neighborhoods of Louisiana are a safer place to raise our children.”  The Western District of Louisiana's Violent Offender Task Force (VOTF) in Lafayette is a team comprised of full-time law enforcement officers from the Lafayette City Marshals, Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office, Lafayette Police Department, St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office, and Louisiana Probation and Parole.  Further, VOTF Lafayette calls upon part-time TFO's and partners throughout its eight parish area.  In 2011 VOTF Lafayette closed approximately 500 Warrants, most of which were violent felony offenses.  Further, US Marshals Task Forces throughout the United States closed more than 113,000 felony warrants nationwide.
