BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – State officials say they will be deploying helicopters over Lake Bistineau to spray herbicide on invasive aquatic plants.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says spraying over the northwest Louisiana lake is scheduled to start on Nov. 27 and last two days.

The operation is designed to treat roughly 800 acres of giant salvinia, which has seen a surge in growth in parts of the lake. The department says none of the herbicides are harmful to the lake's ecosystem, animal life or humans.
