Construction on the 18 million dollar affordable housing project called Uptown Lofts is near completion. The development off of Congress Street in downtown Lafayette offers 70 units with retail spaces below the apartments. Three Hundred people have already applied to live there.
The Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority bought the project from Acadiana Outreach Center after they went through financial struggles. The LPTFA is excited to open this project up to the public. According to Celeste White, a trustee at the LPTFA, Uptown Lofts are meant to attract people to the downtown area. To keep people there to not only work but live.
White says there will be plenty of green space available to people to enjoy. White goes on to say they apartments are cheap for the space you're getting. Some residents are expected to move in as early as next month. For more information go to www.uptown-lofts.com
