FAA ORDERS INSPECTION OF AIRLINERS FOR FUEL LEAKS

The Federal Aviation Administration has ordered Boeing to inspect all in-service 787 Dreamliners for possible fuel leaks.  The action follows reports of fuel leaks being found in two 787's operated by foreign airlines.

The FAA says it issued the mandate after the discovery of several improperly assembled engine manifold couplings  on in-service production  Dreamliners.

Loretta Gunter, a spokesman for Boeing, says “The inspections have already been completed on about half of the in-service fleet.”

The FAA's mandatory inspection order is unrelated to the emergency landing of a United Airlines 787 in New Orleans on Tuesday.  United told the Associated Press the emergency landing was warranted because of a failed generator, an issue currently being investigated by Boeing and United.
