Louisiana's Wildlife and Fisheries Commission has announced plans to close shrimping in portions of Louisiana's offshore territorial waters. The commission says in a news release it's a measure taken this time of year to allow small white shrimp to grow to more marketable sizes. The areas affected include a portion south of the state's inside-outside shrimp line from the northwest shore of Caillou Boca westward to the Atchafalaya River Ship Channel at Eugene Island. It closes Dec. 18. Also, a portion south of the inside-outside line from the Atchafalaya River Ship Channel at Eugene Island westward to the western shore of Freshwater Bayou Canal. That portion is to close Jan. 7. Details and maps can be viewed at http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov .
