Students at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette will be able to shop for textbooks, merchandise and school supplies at a new location next year. The building is being constructed next door to the current University Bookstore location on Saint Mary Street. “The Tent” looks more like a fortress than a temporary structure. It will have two stories of books, merchandise and convenience items and is meant to provide more shopping space to students, faculty and visitors. The two structures will even be connected from the inside with a walkway. Even after the Student Union opens in 2014, the University Bookstore and the “Tent” will maintain a presence on campus. All textbooks will be transferred back to the Student Union, but merchandise will continue to be sold at the current location.
If you are looking to shop for Ragin Cajun merchandise without dealing with construction or student traffic, the best place to do so is “The Red Zone” located at the corner of Lewis and Johnston Street. There is general parking available.
