NEW ORLEANS (AP) – The National Weather Service says southwest Louisiana is emerging from downpours that has rivers and streams at or approaching flood stage. Hydrologist Jonathan Brazzell says river flooding probably will affect mostly streets along the river, where most homes are built up high enough to avoid flooding. Eunice had nearly 11.2 inches of rain in the 24 hours ending at 7 a.m., and Iowa (EYE-uh-way) 9.7 inches.
By late Thursday morning the worst of the rain was over southeast Louisiana. Meteorologist Danielle Manning says Ascension, St. James, St. John and Livingston parishes reported widespread street flooding, with minor street flooding in several other locations. The weather service says an industrial plant in Iberville Parish may have been damaged by a tornado as heavy storms moved through the area Thursday morning.
