Suspect Sought in Thibodaux Vehicle Theft and Burglaries

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a reward is being offered in relation to a stolen vehicle and a string of vehicle burglaries that occurred Tuesday morning in the area of Winder Road in Thibodaux.

Detectives have obtained warrants for the arrest of Spencer Reid Sims (W/M, D.O.B. 04/07/79) of 203 Willard Drive in Houma in relation to the case, and they believe others may also have been involved.

At approximately 3:15 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, deputies responded to a call that someone was trying to break into a car located along Winder Road. Upon arrival, deputies located the suspect's vehicle, but before a traffic stop could be initiated, the vehicle fled from deputies.

Moments later, the suspect's vehicle was found flipped on its side in a swimming pool at a residence on Pamela Street. Deputies also found crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, and a witness said the driver fled the crash scene on foot.

K-9 officers from the Sheriff's Office and the Thibodaux Police Department arrived to assist in the search. While searching, deputies learned a pickup truck had been stolen in close proximity to where the suspect's car was found. The stolen truck is described as a light blue Ford with tan-colored accents along the bottom.

Through investigation, detectives have obtained arrest warrants with bond amounts totaling over $250,000 for the car's registered owner, Spencer Reid Sims. Sims is wanted for vehicle theft, six vehicle burglaries, aggravated flight from an officer, simple criminal damage to property, and possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. He is also a suspect in other crimes in Lafourche and Houma.

Anyone with information on Sims' whereabouts, or on other possible suspects in these crimes, is asked to contact Bayou Region Crime Stoppers at 1-800-743-7433 or by texting “GIVEATIP” plus your message to 274637. Information can also be submitted online at or by using the free TipSubmit Mobile application available in the Apple App Store and the Android Market. Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.00 in cash if the information given leads to an arrest.
