Special Education Funding Changes

Changes to the MPF formula has Lafayette Parish School System bracing for some major changes. As we reported yesterday, finance committee members of the board of elementary and secondary education or BESE, approved changes to the MFP formula, which the state uses to allocate per pupil funding.

But Lafayette Parish school superintendent Dr Pat Cooper says the changes will impact his district negatively.

“Cooper: this combined with the one million in cuts from sequestration and 12 million from state now, we have to re map our entire budget and won't be able to do our next turnaround without asking for money from public.”

Legislative approval is still needed before any changes happen to the MFP formula.
