Update: Iberia Stabbing Victim

NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) – The Iberia Parish Coroner's Office has identified the victim of a Tuesday night stabbing as Lolita Bailey, whose 13-year-old stepson is being held on a count of second-degree murder. Coroner Dr. Carl Ditch said in a news release that Bailey died of multiple stab wounds.

UPDATE: Sheriff Louis Ackal advises the suspect in the homicide that occurred on the 4600 Block of the Loreauville Road on March 12, 2013 was charged with 2nd degree murder.  The 13 year old suspect has since been transported to St. James Juvenile Detention Center.  Any additional information of charges will be released when available.




St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office Press Release

Sheriff Louis Ackal advises that on March 12, 2013 at approximately 6:30 p.m. deputies responded to the 4100 Block of the Loreauville Highway in reference to female being stabbed. 

Once deputies arrived on scene they learned that a 34 year old female had been stabbed multiple times inside of a residence.  The female victim had no signs consistent with life and was pronounced dead by the Iberia Parish Coroner's Office. 

Deputies located a thirteen year old male at the scene. The male was taken into custody and believed to be the suspect responsible for the homicide. 

Through further investigation, Detectives with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office learned that the suspect is the stepson of the victim.  Detectives also learned that both victim and suspect were living at the residence at the time of the incident.  The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Unit is conducting a through investigation of the crime scene.  Detectives are continuing their investigation.
