Acadia Parish Youth Driving Simulator

High school students in Acadia Parish got a firsthand experience about the dangers of distracted driving Wednesday. For the second year in a row, Acadia Parish officials put on the choice project. The purpose is to educate the youth about the dangers of drink and driving as well as texting while driving. A virtual reality simulator was used to imitate the feeling of driving while under the influence.

“It makes you realize and us going to different schools showing our students that we are in that position hopefully wakes them up and realize that could be us” says student Chelsea Sattler.

“We want to make sure that students have the whole picture so they have the opportunity to see what happens before after graveside we paint a full picture” says Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office Information Officer Maxine Trahan.

Students were able to witness the consequences of distracted driving during a mock funeral. A video was made of the funeral will be shown to high school students across the parish.
