UL comes together at Night of Remembrance

It was a night of community; a night of grieving; a “Night of Remembrance” at UL Lafayette Wednesday evening as those families and friends of students lost over the school year came together.

As a nearby church bell rang out for all 15 deceased university members and the flames of family and friends were illuminating the night it was a moment for the UL community to reflect on the tragedies of the past year including the widely publicized death of Anthropology senior Mickey Schunick.

Schunick is perhaps the most well-known of the bunch. She went missing a year ago this month, which led to a statewide search. Her body has since been found and her killer Brandon Scott Lavergne is now in jail.

But on Wednesday night Schunick was just one among her peers in a moment lending comfort to her family and friends.
