SLCC offering career pathway camps this summer

Registration deadline May 24, 2013 

LAFAYETTE ­– This summer, South Louisiana Community College in conjunction with the Lafayette, St. Landry, and St. Martin Parish school districts, will be offering free Career Pathways Summer Camps.

Students can earn ½ Carnegie unit of high school elective credit towards graduation. 

Camp dates are June 3 – June 14, 2013 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students can register at http://www.solacc.edu/cc_summer_camps. The deadline to register is May 24, 2013.

The camps will highlight various careers such as those in healthcare and emergency medical services; information technology; architecture and construction; transportation, distribution and logistics; advanced manufacturing, business and much more.

Students will also learn about the education and training programs for these careers, increase their knowledge of career opportunities with interactive, hands-on activities, and become better informed to make wise career choices.

Camp activities will include: 

• touring business sites and medical facilities;

• college and university campus tours;

• job shadowing opportunities at business sites;

• visits to local community agencies; and

• guest speakers.
