Thursday, officials with the Lafayette Economic Development Authority and Plains Exploration & Production Company announced PXP has started construction on a new warehouse and administrative offices in Broussard to support its growing offshore deepwater Gulf of Mexico operations.

The new 120,000 sq. ft. warehouse and storage facility will include a climate controlled storage area and will house necessary equipment and parts for offshore operations. In addition, an 8,000 sq. ft. office and conference room facility will be built to manage day-to-day operations at the warehouse yard. The office facility will also serve as a response center during hurricane evacuations and other events that affect PXP's offshore platforms.

“With more than 750 oil-and-gas-related businesses in Lafayette and many more throughout Acadiana, this region is the hub for energy production and services in the Southeastern U.S. and the Gulf of Mexico,” said LEDA President and CEO Gregg Gothreaux.

Over the next five years, the expanded Gulf of Mexico operations will create more than 600 direct and contract positions with an average annual salary of $100,000. PXP employs approximately 220 people in Lafayette and the surrounding communities.

PXP purchased the 26.5-acre industrial park site in LEDA Industrial Park in Broussard. Construction on the new facility began in March and will be completed in September.
