BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – The Senate Transportation Committee backed a bill that would require dogs be placed in a ventilated crate if they are in back of a truck or on a utility trailer, when on an interstate highway.
Rep. Tom Willmott, R-Kenner, said he was attempting to prevent incidents of dogs falling or jumping from the back of moving vehicles. Violators would face a fine up to $150 for one dog and $50 for each additional dog.
The House-approved proposal (House Bill 470), which was approved without objection, heads to the full Senate.
