The Lafayette Parish School System and individual schools may soon be able to draw from private donations to pay for new computers, band uniforms, or renovations without taking money from the districts budget.
In November the Lafayette Parish Fund for Excellence in public schools was approved by the school board and is just now getting off the ground.
Donations can be given to the school system, a specific school or a specific program. The funds purpose is to support the goals and purpose of the turnaround plan.
The fund, managed by the Community Foundation of Acadiana has been slow to gather donations due to limited public awareness of how to donate but that may change with a media campaign set to launch this summer. For more information visit www.lpssonline.com
