GRAND ISLE, La. (AP) – The National Weather Service says a waterspout came ashore on Grand Isle but appears to have done little damage.
Police told the weather service that the waterspout damaged the roof of a camp on the island's bay side.
Meteorologist Phil Grigsby says photographs sent to the weather service confirmed that it was a waterspout.
The Grand Isle Fire Department tells WWL-TV that it knocked down a power line.
Grigsby says radar indicates that the storm weakened and broke apart as it moved over the barrier island. He says meteorologists won't know whether it stayed on the ground until they go to Grand Isle and survey the damage.
