LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) – Lafayette police have arrested a woman after her 3-year-old son wandered two blocks from their home while she slept.
The Advocate reports 19-year-old Chelsea Johns was booked Tuesday on one count of second-offense child desertion.
Cpl. Paul Mouton, Lafayette police spokesman, said Johns was arrested in 2012 for one count of child desertion.
Mouton said the toddler was found at the home of a West Congress Street resident who called police at 10:35 a.m.
Mouton said Jones fell asleep inside her home and the boy wandered outside.
It was unclear whether Jones has an attorney.
