Vermilion Catholic High School has reported themselves to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) for violating policy.
According to the principal Mike Guilbeaux, the football coach mistakenly allowed his players to put on pads a day earlier than allowed during pre-season practice. That violates LHSAA rules, but because they spoke up they were only fined one hundred dollars rather than five hundred.
Guilbeaux said it would be an embarrassment if someone else spoke up about the incident especially when they knew what they did wrong. Guilbeaux said there is a trust among them and the LHSAA and that all parties involved did the right thing by reporting the incident.
The rules were put in place by the LHSAA over health concerns for players practicing in the summer heat.
