OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) – One week after his bribery conviction in a federal court, Quincy Richard has withdrawn his appeal of the earlier district court finding that he was ineligible to serve on the St. Landry Parish School Board.

Oral arguments were scheduled Wednesday in the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal on the removal suit finding, but District Attorney Earl Taylor tells The Daily World the hearing was canceled after Richard withdrew his appeal.

Richard was effectively removed from office by the conviction in federal court.

A jury found Richard guilty of three charges related to soliciting a bribe from Assistant Superintendent Joseph Cassimere during the superintendent selection process. Cassimere, then a candidate, alerted the FBI to the bribe solicitation shortly after Richard and fellow former member John Miller approached him last summer.
