Execution date reset for convicted child killer

MANSFIELD, La. (AP) – State District Judge Robert Burgess in Mansfield has set a Nov. 5 execution date for child killer Christopher Sepulvado

Sepulvado was convicted 20 years ago for the first-degree murder of his 6-year-old stepson, Wesley Allen Mercer.

The Times reports Burgess' decision Thursday to sign another execution warrant comes less than a week after a federal appeals court overturned a federal judge's order canceling Sepulvado's Feb. 13 execution.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday said U.S. District Judge James Brady abused his discretion when he stayed the earlier execution date.
