Temperatures were dipping down to the upper 30s in Parc Sans Souci for Downtown Alive! on Wednesday evening, but didn't deter event goers from catching the official Lafayette city Christmas tree lighting.
“I really never even knew Lafayette had an official lighting of the tree kind of situation going on and I was excited to see that,” says event attendee Melissa Comeaux.
Even after the tree lighting dozens of people stuck around braving the chilly weather to see the 4-time Grammy nominated Pine Leaf Boys.
“My husband really likes Cajun music and he loves the Pine Leaf Boys, so that's why we're here, so he likes it. I like it a little bit,” says event attendee Tara Rivers.
As the evening wore on temperatures were dropping lower and event goers were fighting to keep warm by eating hot gumbo, drinking hot chocolate and dancing.
“I have a couple layers, I mean I'm a Cajun boy, so I don't like the cold weather too much, but I'm warm enough,” says attendee Sean Hoffpauir.
Downtown Lafayette Spokeswoman Kate Durio says she is hoping the weather cooperates for the last Downtown Alive! next Thursday. The last Downtown Alive! will feature Ray Boudreaux, a former contestant on NBC's “The Voice.”
“We know that his fan base has grown so much since he's been on the show, so we wanted to give Lafayette an opportunity to welcome him home and see him live. He's definitely grown as a musician and an artist through his experience on the show,” says Durio.
If you want to see the last Downtown Alive!, featuring Boudreaux, it will be on Thursday, December 5 from 5:30p to 8:30 p.m
