The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office received a grant from Wal-Mart Distribution Center Wednesday allowing the department to purchase new video surveillance for their S.W.A.T. team.

The robotic video camera is suppose to transfer images back to the officers controlling it.

According to the sheriff's grant writer, Lieutenant Jesse Martin, this system can make use of black-and-white night vision, as well as infrared technologies.

It also has microphones and speakers so police are able to listen to what is happening in the robot's environment and communicate with people near it which is expected to be useful in hostage situations.
