Vermilion Parish residents saw some of the worst icing conditions they've seen in decades. But despite what mother nature handed out, roads closures and accidents were limited.
Old man winter made history in the deep south by gracing us with one of the worst winter storms in recent years.
Kaplan Mayor Kirk Champagne says roads throughout the parish were iced over by late Tuesday night making roads look more like ice rinks. That's why mayor Champagne implemented a curfew that ended early Wednesday morning.
“I got up about six this morning and checked conditions. They are really bad. There are some places with half inch of ice on the roads. Even Cushing is iced over.” said Champagne.
Despite the hazardous conditions, few road restrictions and or closures occurred.
But the threat of black ice and a re-freeze is still a worry for most.
