Kaplan Police arrest suspected meth dealer

Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams advises on February 6, 2014 at approximately 10:00 p.m. Sgt Kurt Boeve and Officer James Hodges were on criminal patrol when they ran across a pickup truck driven by Jarrod Francis DOB 02/24/1982 of 811 N Herpin Ave Kaplan Louisiana, run a stop sign. Officers conducted a traffic stop where they met with the driver Mr. Francis. Mr. Francis  was very nervous and as officers were speaking with him he fled on foot.

Officers began a foot pursuit and apprehended the  suspect approximately 2 blocks from the original traffic stop.  Sgt Boeve contacted Kaplan Police K9 Officer Rocky Trahan to the location of the traffic stop.

Officer Trahan ran KPD K9 Diamond around the vehicle where Diamond alerted on several areas of the truck. Officers searched the truck and Located 22.1 grams of crystal Meth with a street value of approx.. $1200.00, Large amount of Marijuana and an assortment of drug paraphernalia. While Mr. Francis was under arrest he threatened officers by hurting them badly when he got out of prison. Francis also while in the back seat of the police unit attempted to kick the windows out of the car.

Francis is currently incarcerated in the Kaplan Police Department jail and is charged with possession with intent to distribute schedule II (crystal Meth), possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of drug proceeds, resisting arrest and threatening a public official.

At press release time, no bond had been set on Mr. Francis. Officers are also seizing over $600.00 in cash from Mr. Francis's property and also looking into seizing the vehicle he was driving due the vehicle being used to transport illegal narcotics.

Chief of Police Boyd Adams adds, illegal narcotics,(crystal Meth, heroin, pain killers etc) are ruining a lot of young and old people's lives due to its potency and mind altering affects. He stresses and warns illegal narcotics will not be tolerated and if you choose the life of dealing are useing then it's just a matter of time before we knocking on your door.  Chief Adams also adds if anyone is in need of help, due to a drug addiction that you feel you just can't beat, he ask that you call him are go by and see him, so he can do what has to be done to get you in a place for treatment/ counseling.
