If you receive an e-mail from a funeral home be extra cautious before opening any links it could be a scam according to the Better Business Bureau of Acadiana.
If you receive an email with the subject line “Funeral notification” with an invitation to celebrate a friend's “Life service” don't open any links.
The bureau says the invitation may look real with a real funeral homes' name, colors and insignia. But, clicking the link could allow scammers access to personal information off your computer.
“Usually these emails that come in don't even have an address of a funeral home. It's just a well-known funeral home. No name no anything else. But there is a giveaway. And there's always a giveaway. If you look in the return email address it's not even the email address of the funeral home. It's the email address of somebody else.” said BBB President and CEO Sharane Gott.
The BBB of Acadiana says they have been reaching out to funeral homes in the area and none of them use an e-mail blast to invite families to any services.
