In a state that's usually known for having a good time, Louisiana is ranked the 10th most miserable state according to a recent survey. The rankings come after the recent Gallup-Healthways well-being index. The index measures the physical and emotional health of Americans across the country.
More than 176,000 people from all 50 states were interviewed last year. While Louisiana ranked 10th, West Virginia took the distinction for being the most miserable state in the union.
According to U.S. Gallup Researcher Dan Witters, Louisiana gets its low ranking due to a high smoking rate and a lack of healthy eating by many who were surveyed.
