DERIDDER, La. (AP) – A policy review committee has voted to relax the Beauregard Parish school system's dress code and to ban electronic cigarettes and gauge piercings in the upcoming school year.
The American Press reports the committee recommended this week that students be allowed to wear school sponsored spirit shirts, which would bear the school logo or mascot. Current policy allows only for plain polo, turtleneck or dress-type shirts.
The group also voted to allow students to wear ankle socks of any color or design. Current policy allows for solid navy, white, black or sheer skin color above-ankle socks.
The committee also voted to ban e-cigarettes and visible gauge piercings.
The board will likely to vote on the various policy changes at its upcoming meeting in March.
