If you're dealing with an excess of beads now that Mardi Gras is over, LARC has a solution for you. They are now accepting donations for their “Mardi Gras Beads-n-More” program. The program has several donation sites set up where you can donate your beads and throws.
LARC takes the donated beads and re-packages them and sells them to various Krewes and organizations for next year's Mardi Gras.
LARC's Director of Community Relations, Susan Nini, says the program is about more than just recycling beads, it also creates jobs and stimulates the local economy.
“It creates job opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities. They do get paid to work on the bead project. Some can only sort, some can only measure. Some of our clients can do all of the tasks. They work in the warehouse and they help our clients pick out the beads and throws and things like that. So it helps create job opportunities, it creates economic development for those because they go back into the community and they spend money in the Lafayette area.” said Nini.
If you would like to know where you can donate your beads, LARC has donation sites set up all around Lafayette Parish. You can drop off your beads at the Acadiana Mall customer service desk, any Lafayette Parish Public Library, or at any of the four Raising Cane's locations in Lafayette.
