LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) – The Council for the Development of French in Louisiana has named Charles Larroque as its new executive director.

Larroque has long been active in efforts to preserve and nurture French culture in Louisiana.

A graduate of the University of Louisiana at Monroe, Larroque is a native of Jeanerette.

The CODOFIL Council voted unanimously to select Larroque, who had been serving as interim director since last month.

Larroque replaces former Executive Director Joseph Dunn, who stepped down in December.

The new director tells The Advocate he feels confident the French language has a good future in Louisiana.
