A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the new Lafayette General Medical Center parking garage. It's been two years in the making.
An $8 million parking garage is what was created from what City Parish President, Joey Durel, calls “A perfect partnership”. “This partnership was really good for everybody and I think it really does help us advance the possibility of getting a new performing arts center in the not too distant future hopefully,” said Durel.
Lafayette General Medical Center paid for the garage, but it sits on city property. This deal was struck after city officials and hospital administration decided on a plan that was beneficial for both parties.
“They needed the parking space, they needed a place to put the parking garage. We needed parking for our performing arts center,” said Durel. This 343 parking space garage also leaves room for the hospital to expand in other areas as well.
“We also put the mechanicals for the entire or/er platform in this garage which is one of the keys for us ,” said David Callecod, Lafayette General Health System President. Callecod added, LGMC has tripled in growth in terms of volume and this new addition among other changes should help them become a level 2 trauma center in the next 12 months.
The parking garage will officially open to patients and visitors March 28th at 4 a.m.
