January retail sales second highest on record

A new report from the Lafayette Economic Development Authority says retail sales in January topped $450 million, making it the second-highest January on record, falling just short of the record set in 2013.

The total is just 1.5 percent less than the numbers from 2013.

LEDA president and CEO Gregg Gothreaux says the numbers could have exceeded 2013's total but were likely affected by the unusual freezing temperatures in January that brought snow and ice to Lafayette.

January hotel-motel revenue, however, did exceed numbers from 2013 by 3.1 percent, topping the $5 million mark.
