LAKE ARTHUR, La. (AP) – The Lake Arthur Board of Aldermen unanimously voted to raise the salaries of the next mayor and slate of aldermen.
A motion to do away with the $200 pay for one special meeting per month failed in a tie vote Wednesday night.
The American Press reports the increase will push the next mayor's salary from $600 to $1,200 a month, or $14,400 a year. Salaries for the board's five aldermen will increase from $200 to $400 a month, or $4,800 annually, with an additional $200 for one special meeting per month.
The raises will not go into effect until January 2015, after the Nov. 4 municipal elections. Qualifying for the elections is Aug. 20-22.
