A woman accused of stealing a dog from one man's yard was arrested not once, but twice.
Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Deputies responded to the 200 block of Loranger Boulevard on Wednesday to investigate the theft of an English Bulldog after the victim reported his dog had been taken from his yard without permission.
Police determined 25-year-old Ashley Ann Perkins of Broussard was responsible for the theft. Perkins admitted she took the dog, but claimed she thought the dog was hers.
A witness later said Perkins attempted to sell them the bulldog for $200. Perkins was arrested and taken to the sheriff's office for processing when she escaped custody through a rear door. Officers later recaptured her at a Circle K store on St. Landry Street.
Perkins was charged with theft of animals, criminal trespassing, and simple escape. She is currently being held in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on a $7,500 bond.
