Crawfish theft suspect arrested in Crowley

A Crowley man was arrested Tuesday evening following the investigation of a crawfish theft that occurred on the Crowley Eunice Hwy near Crowley.

According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, Agents with  the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries observed a male subject in a crawfish pond and upon conducting an investigation arrested 39 year old Jason Paul Mire of the 27000 block of the Crowley Eunice Hwy, Crowley and charged him with theft of crawfish.   Deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation and charged Mire with trespassing.

Sheriff Melancon advised that his department has been receiving numerous theft complaints from crawfish farmer throughout the parish.  He remind those responsible that theft of crawfish is punishable with or without hard labor, for not more than ten years or may be fined not more than three thousand dollars, or both.
