Iberia Parish Drug Take Back Day

Sheriff Louis Ackal announced today the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, on Saturday, April 26, 2014. After collecting more than 1,700 tons of expired, unwanted prescription medications over the past three-and-a-half years, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agency partners, will hold another National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 26. Iberia Parish residents may turn in any unused, unwanted or unnecessary prescription drugs that they have in their medicine cabinets. Unused medications left in homes, may create a health and/or safety concern, due to the probability of accidental ingestion, theft, misuse, and abuse.

This is a “no questions asked” program. The prescriptions are taken from the public and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), for safe and proper disposal. Only pills and other solids, like patches, etc., can be brought to the collection sites — liquids, needles or other sharp objects will not be accepted.

The Iberia Parish drop off site will be at the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Center located at 459 East Main Street. Medications will be collected from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM on this day.
