A University of Louisiana at Lafayette professor is being honored as the recipient of the 2014 Louisiana Writer Award.

Darrell Bourque, a poet and English professor at UL, was announced as the award winner by the state library of Louisiana. The award is given annually to recognize outstanding contributions to Louisiana’s literary and intellectual life. Bourque’s poetry collections focus on life in Louisiana.

His latest book is “Megan’s Guitar and Other Poems from Acadie.”

Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne and State Librarian Rebecca Hamilton will present Bourque with the award in November during the Louisiana book festival.
