A Lafayette man has been taken into custody accused of firing a gun at a Lafayette Police Officer. Police say just after 11:00 P.M. Thursday night they were called out to a shooting in the 200 block of East Clinton Street and when they arrived found a male suspect standing in the street.
Lafayette Police Corporal Paul Mouton says “when they encountered the suspect, the suspect produced a handgun and pointed it in the direction of the officer. At which time, he fired one shot striking the suspect in the shoulder before he fled on foot. He was later located hiding under a home.”
Corporal Mouton went on to say that the officer was not injured during the incident and that the unidentified suspect is currently listed in stable condition. Investigators at the scene recovered two semi- automatic pistols and discovered that the suspect had warrants out for his arrest. The investigation remains ongoing.
